The City of Lynchburg Office of Economic Development & Tourism, the Small Business Development Center, and the Academy Center of the Arts host the second annual Create Lynchburg Conference on Saturday, February 24, 2018. The conference is for Lynchburg’s community of artists and creatives. The goal of the conference is to support area arts & entrepreneurship, equipping artists and organizations with the tools, resources, and connections to be successful in business and have a positive economic development impact in the greater Lynchburg community.

Next Deadline for James River Arts & Cultural District Grants | December 1

The next deadline for applications to the James River Arts & Cultural District Program is December 1, 2017. The City of Lynchburg's Arts & Cultural District Program is intended to attract citizens, organizations and partnerships that wish to create and implement projects within the District to benefit the welfare of the citizens of and visitors to Lynchburg. Grant projects may include events, activities, capital investments, promotions, improvements, or displays that serve to further arts and culture in the District.

City of Lynchburg accepts two International Economic Development Awards

On Tuesday, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) awarded the City of Lynchburg two Excellence in Economic Development Bronze Awards for promotional projects:  Lynchburg Innovation Week and “This is Lynchburg: Welcome Home” video. IEDC’s prestigious awards program recognizes the world’s best economic development marketing materials, programs and partnerships, honoring organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban and rural communities. Lynchburg was awarded in the population category ranging from 25,000 to 200,000.

City of Lynchburg Launches Downtown Master Plan Update

This fall, the City of Lynchburg will embark on an update to the Downtown/Riverfront Master Plan to address the future growth and development of downtown. This plan will build upon the previous Downtown Plans developed in 2000 (Lynchburg Downtown and Riverfront Master Plan) and in 2006 (Riverfront Implementation Plan). Downtown Lynchburg Association is a partner in this special planning project.

Lynchburg Arts Generates $10.8 Million in Economic Activity and Supports 251 Jobs Annually

The nonprofit arts and culture industry generates more than $10.8 million in annual economic activity in the City of Lynchburg—supporting 251 full-time equivalent jobs and generating $962,000 in local and state government revenues, according to the Arts & Economic Prosperity 5 national economic impact study.

City of Lynchburg Honored with Virginia Economic Development Award for Lynchburg Innovation Week

The City of Lynchburg was selected to receive a 2017 Community Economic Development Award (CEDA) from the Virginia Economic Developers Association for Lynchburg Innovation Week. The awards were presented last week at the association’s Spring Conference in Charlottesville. The CEDA awards are designed to recognize outstanding communities in the Commonwealth for their efforts in advancing the economic viability of their community through economic and community development programs.

Shoeless Wonders Movie to be Filmed in Lynchburg

In the 1920's, Lynchburg, Virginia was one of the largest shoe manufactures and distributors in the world. Ironically, it was also home to the Shoeless Wonders, a team of orphans who became a national legend playing football without shoes for a winning streak of 8 years.
