Lynchburg, VA – Big retailers in Lynchburg are really hoping for a huge Black Friday, and there are some deals, exclusive to our area that you may not have heard about.
We hear about boosting the economy all the time, and buying local is the way to do it.
“We’ve got some RC planes and helicopters and games that are good for the whole family,” said Danny Givens, owner of Givens Books.
Locally-owned Givens Books is joining in the holiday rush. On Black Friday and “Small Business Saturday,” they’re offering 10% off your entire purchase.
“We’ve got a slew of new toys for all ages and we’ve got toys for older kids too,” said Givens.
If you’re in the market for jewelry, Bead Abode is offering a deal as well. You can buy a pre-made piece or make a bracelet, necklace or watch of your own. They’re also offering a discount of 10%, but only for “Small Business Saturday.”
Rex Hammond with the Lynchburg Chamber of Commerce says ‘shopping local’ is more than a cliché.
“It really does have a substantial economic impact when people make that decision to shop at home,” said Hammond.
Hammond says every dollar spent locally makes a difference.
“When people shop at home they’re making people’s payrolls and providing them with Christmas money, and they’re paying tax on that money and funding local charities and it stays in the economy and rolls over again,” said Hammond.
Small business Saturday is November 24, the day after Black Friday. If you swipe an American Express Card at a local store on that day, you could get money back on your purchase.
