City of Lynchburg Releases 2018 Economic Development & Tourism Year in Review

On Thursday, September 27, 2018, the Office of Economic Development & Tourism for the City of Lynchburg released its 2018 Year in ReviewAt the City of Lynchburg, we take a multi-faceted approach to economic development and tourism, believing that the best results come from investing in people and place. 

This past year has marked a handful of tremendous milestones for our City, including: 

  • More than $3.4 million available from local, state and federal programs through our office to businesses in the City of Lynchburg
  • Relocation of Framatome headquarters to the City of Lynchburg from Charlotte, NC 
  • $2.6 million dollar economic impact from the Commonwealth Games, in partnership with Liberty University 
  • The announcement of "Stay Close, Go Far" by the Lynchburg Beacon of Hope, a partnership with CVCC, Randolph College, Liberty University, the University of Lynchburg, Centra School of Nursing and Sweet Briar to offer free community college and equivalent scholarships to all Lynchburg City School graduates for the next five years
  • The graduation of more than sixty small businesses from the CO.STARTERS entrepreneurial program in the last three years
  • The launch of LYH, a new tourism marketing brand
  • Bids to secure the 2018 Meeting Planners International statewide conference, the 2019 Virginian Association of Museums annual conference and the 2019 State Games of America
  • Placemaking and promotional efforts like CRUSH Friday, American Evolution and the James River Arts & Cultural program
